In art class, students are encouraged to be expressive and creative in their projects to help discover new things about themselves, their peers and the world around them. As part of their art exploration, students will be exposed to new artists, art history, and art/crafts from different cultures from around the world. Students will also be introduced to new techniques and mediums. Students will work on projects that integrate other concepts they are learning within their core curriculum (math, science, social studies, and language arts). All projects align with the Common Core Standards and the National Art Standards. Students will build knowledge of the elements of art and principles of design through discussions and 'hands-on' learning. Students will be involved in group/partner discussions about art, participate in critiques (where students verbalize their work), and have 'gallery-walks' (where students experience other students work). Finally, students are asked to try their best while using an open mind.
